This on-site generation is essential for training the next generation of Grok, xAI’s flagship artificial intelligence model.
However, the permit’s approval has ignited a firestorm among Southaven residents who describe the facility as a “jet engine” in their backyard. At the Jackson meeting, locals testified about persistent droning sounds that have disrupted sleep and daily life since last summer. Critics argue that the state’s decision to hold the meeting on an election day was a deliberate attempt to stifle public participation.
Environmental groups like the NAACP and Earthjustice have highlighted the grave health risks associated with the plant’s emissions. The turbines release fine particulate matter and formaldehyde, which are known to exacerbate asthma and respiratory illness in a region already struggling with poor air quality.
