Hungary has emerged as a dominant force in European water polo, securing the top spot in the men’s rankings and second place in the women’s standings according to the latest European Aquatics rankings. These rankings, which evaluate the performance of senior and youth national teams over the past three years, highlight Hungary’s consistent excellence across multiple competitions.
In the men’s category, Hungary’s team achieved first place by consistently finishing among the top six in all eight evaluated tournaments. Notably, the team clinched silver medals at both the senior European Championship in Belgrade and the U16 European Championship in Istanbul. Following closely in the men’s rankings are Serbia, the reigning European champions, in second place, with Spain securing the third spot.
The women’s rankings see the Netherlands in the lead, having successfully defended their European title in Funchal. Hungary follows as a strong contender in second place, with Spain rounding out the top three. The performance of these teams underscores their competitiveness and skill in the sport.
