TOKYO – Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. has officially announced the scheduled opening of its inaugural domestic resort, the Okura Resort Hakone Gora, in the year 2029. This strategic development is the product of a collaborative partnership and operational agreement finalized with Nishimatsu Construction in July 2025.
The resort is positioned in Hakone Gora, a highly sought-after thermal spring destination in Japan, which historically attracts approximately 20 million visitors annually. The establishment is designed to showcase the region’s abundant natural scenery while delivering Okura’s distinctive standards of Japanese hospitality.
Designed by Gwenael Nicolas, the property adopts a “Forest Hideaway” conceptual approach. It will feature 58 exclusive guest rooms, each uniquely equipped with a private open-air bath utilizing authentic spring water sourced from Owakudani. Onsite facilities are slated to include complementary indoor hot spring baths, saunas, a dedicated teppanyaki dining venue, and an upscale bar lounge.
The anticipated 2029 opening signifies a pivotal expansion for the Okura brand, marking its entry into the domestic luxury resort market.
