Lidl Hungary has significantly bolstered its logistics capabilities with the inauguration of a new center in Kiskunfélegyháza, following an investment of nearly 60 billion forints, equivalent to about €162 million. This state-of-the-art facility stands as the largest warehouse operated by the retailer in Hungary, poised to enhance the supply chain for around 70 stores throughout the nation.
Spanning more than 83,000 square meters, the logistics hub has generated over 400 jobs in the region, with plans to recruit an additional 50 employees shortly. The facility is equipped with 194 loading docks and a sizable 24,000-square-meter refrigerated section, enhancing its capacity to manage a diverse range of products efficiently.
Emphasizing sustainability, the center incorporates energy-efficient systems, including a 9,000-square-meter rooftop solar installation. The innovative use of waste heat from the refrigeration system for underfloor heating further underscores Lidl’s commitment to environmentally friendly operations. Additionally, a 10,000-square-meter biodiverse green space has been cultivated around the site to promote ecological balance.
This new logistics center is set to play a vital role in strengthening Lidl’s nationwide supply network. It is projected that approximately 4,500 pallets of goods will be dispatched from this facility each day, streamlining the flow of products across the company’s extensive retail footprint.
Currently, Lidl operates 220 stores across Hungary, with nearly 60% of its products sourced from local suppliers, underscoring its commitment to supporting domestic industry. The newly established logistics center is anticipated to aid Lidl’s ongoing expansion efforts and reinforce its operational presence within Hungary.
