by admin477351

Greek expatriates residing in Saudi Arabia have expressed their support for Greece’s decision to deploy Patriot air defense systems to the Kingdom, viewing it as a step that enhances bilateral relations and provides a sense of security amid regional tensions. This military cooperation underscores the growing defense partnership between Greece and Saudi Arabia, with both nations sharing an interest in regional stability.

The deployment of the Patriot systems is intended to help safeguard critical infrastructure, including key energy facilities along the Red Sea coast. Greek Defence Minister Nikos Dendias reinforced Greece’s commitment to Saudi security during a visit to the Greek contingent stationed in Yanbu on October 15. His visit included discussions with Saudi leaders focused on defense collaboration and regional security developments.

For Greek expatriates like Ioannis Barmpounis and Dimitra Chasapi, Greece’s involvement in Saudi Arabia’s defense holds personal significance. They maintain strong ties to their homeland while living in the Kingdom and emphasize the mutual trust, hospitality, and respect for family that both Greek and Saudi societies share.

The defense partnership between the two countries has gained importance due to concerns over potential missile and drone threats targeting strategic infrastructure. For Greece, this deployment offers valuable operational experience in modern air defense systems and strengthens its security relationship with Saudi Arabia.

Despite regional tensions, Greek expatriates in Saudi Arabia report feeling secure and express hope that the cooperation will extend beyond defense to encompass economic, professional, and cultural areas. They believe that continued collaboration could contribute to regional stability, enhance diplomatic relations, and promote lasting peace.
