by admin477351

Greece has agreed to keep its Patriot missile battery stationed in Saudi Arabia after a request from the Kingdom, as confirmed during a meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh. The battery, deployed since 2021, has played a crucial role in intercepting Houthi drones and missiles aimed at Saudi energy infrastructure, including sites in Yanbu.

During the discussions, Mitsotakis reiterated Greece’s commitment to supporting Saudi Arabia’s air defense and condemned attacks against the Kingdom. The leaders highlighted their ongoing strategic partnership and explored avenues for expanding cooperation in defense, energy, and digital connectivity. This aligns with their shared vision for regional security and economic collaboration.

Regional security concerns, particularly the situation involving Iran, were also on the agenda. Both leaders emphasized the need to protect freedom of navigation and keep international shipping routes secure, which is vital for global trade. Mitsotakis stressed the importance of maintaining open and secure maritime paths.

Additionally, the meeting covered progress on the East to Med Data Corridor project, an initiative aimed at enhancing digital connectivity between Europe and Asia through Greece and Saudi Arabia. They discussed preparations for the upcoming meeting of the Greece-Saudi Arabia Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation, evaluating the progress made since its first session in January 2025.
