by admin477351

In a significant move to bolster regional security, Greek Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis and Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci met in Athens to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation against cross-border crime. This meeting, held at Greece’s Ministry of Citizen Protection, is part of ongoing efforts to address shared security challenges.

The ministers focused on a range of issues crucial to both nations, including organized crime, terrorism, extremism, human trafficking, and drug smuggling. They also discussed the activities of criminal networks that exploit undocumented migrants and engage in money laundering linked to illegal operations. These discussions build upon the framework established at the Greece–Türkiye Supreme Cooperation Council meeting in Ankara earlier this year.

Chrysochoidis underscored the necessity of improving information sharing and operational coordination between Greek and Turkish security agencies. He voiced concerns about Turkish nationals allegedly associated with criminal groups operating within Greece, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance and collaboration.

Minister Ciftci expressed satisfaction with the current level of cooperation and advocated for expanded joint efforts, particularly focusing on fortifying security measures and dismantling criminal networks involved in human trafficking. This commitment signals a mutual willingness to address these pressing issues despite the historical differences between the two neighboring countries.

The meeting signifies a continued commitment by Greece and Türkiye to tackle common security threats through cooperative initiatives. This approach not only aims to strengthen regional stability but also to pave the way for a more collaborative future in addressing complex transnational crimes.
