Israel Imposes ‘Air and Naval Blockade’ Amidst Strikes on Houthis

by admin477351

Alongside a devastating series of airstrikes on Yemen, Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that the country is imposing an “air and naval blockade” to further cripple the Houthi rebels. This move signals a comprehensive strategy to isolate and weaken the Iran-backed group.
The announcement came after Israeli jets pounded targets in Sanaa, including a military compound, fuel depots, and power stations. The strikes themselves were a retaliation for a Houthi missile attack that used a cluster bomb warhead, a significant provocation in Israel’s view.
The combination of direct military strikes and a blockade is designed to exert maximum pressure on the Houthis. Katz stated that Israel will continue to hit “infrastructure targets that are used to promote Houthi terrorism,” leaving no doubt about the long-term nature of the campaign.
This multi-pronged approach, featuring both kinetic action and strategic encirclement, marks a serious escalation. As Prime Minister Netanyahu warned of a “heavy price” for the Houthis, the blockade adds an economic and logistical dimension to the military punishment being inflicted.
